Hunter Wilson

Welcome

Hi, I'm Hunter Wilson - a NOC Engineer specializing in network infrastructure, automation, and building robust systems at scale.

What I Do

I work as a NOC Engineer at NetActuate, managing enterprise network infrastructure and BGP routing across a global tier-1 network spanning 40+ Points of Presence. I'm passionate about automation, monitoring, and building systems that scale.

My expertise includes BGP peering, traffic engineering during maintenance windows, network automation, and managing bare metal infrastructure at scale. I hold multiple certifications including CCNA, Network+, JNCIA, and FCA, and I'm currently pursuing RHCSA to expand into DevOps and Infrastructure Engineering.

Featured Project: VRHost Lab

Network Lab Management Platform

Open-source alternative to EVE-NG built from scratch

Built a lightweight, web-based platform for managing virtual network labs - designed for network engineers studying for certifications like JNCIS-SP. Features include:

Other Projects

VRHost - Game Server Hosting Business

Built and operate a game server hosting business on enterprise-grade homelab infrastructure with a global anycast network spanning 8 locations across 4 continents. Features include custom automation scripts, WordPress/WooCommerce integration with automated provisioning systems, and comprehensive monitoring with Prometheus and Grafana.

High Heat Forge E-Commerce Platform

Developed a complete custom e-commerce platform from scratch for my father's bladesmithing and knife-making instruction business in Durham, North Carolina. The project gave me hands-on experience with full-stack Python/Django development, database design with PostgreSQL, payment gateway integration with Stripe, automated email systems with mailcow, and Linux server administration.

What Drives Me

I believe in building production-grade systems from the ground up - whether it's managing global tier-1 network infrastructure spanning 40+ Points of Presence or developing a custom platform from scratch. I'm driven by the challenge of creating reliable, automated solutions that solve real business problems while maintaining enterprise-level standards.

My approach combines hands-on experimentation with systematic documentation and monitoring. Whether I'm establishing new BGP peering sessions at Internet Exchange points, deploying applications on bare metal infrastructure, or architecting systems with complex integrations, I treat every project as an opportunity to build something that works flawlessly and scales properly. I'm motivated by the satisfaction of watching systems I've built run smoothly in production - handling real traffic, processing real transactions, and requiring minimal intervention because they were engineered correctly from the start.
